Lesson 1--Lion head 獅shi1 頭tou2

Objective:

1. Learn basic 4 tones in Chinese pronunciation.

2. Learn basic sentences and names of animals.

3. What does Dragon & Lion dance look like?

Content:

1. We introduced 4 tones to the students. Chinese pin-ying is a system to help you pronounce Chinese character like BoPoMo used in Taiwan, or Hiragana used in Japan. Therefore, students need to learn how to pounce each symbol correctly rather than say it like English pronunciation. Click here to learn more how to learn Chinese pronunciation.

2. We learned a sentence in TPRS style. "What is this?" "This is dolphin."

What is this? 這zhe4 是shi4 什she2 麼me5 ？

This is dolphin. 這zhe4 是shi4 海hai3 豚tun2。

This is cat. 這zhe4 是shi4 貓mao1 。

3. We watched a video about 舞wu3 龍long2 舞wu3 獅shi1 。

We saw photos about different styles of Lion Head (mask).

Lion head : 獅shi1 頭tou2

Lion King : 獅shi1 王wang2

4. We made a lion king head and wrote 王wang2 (king) on its forehead as a symbol of lion which is the king of all animals.
