Technology Operations and Concepts. Educational technology leaders demonstrate an advanced understanding of technology operations and concepts.
A. Demonstrate knowledge, skills, and understanding of concepts related to technology (as described in the ISTE National Education Technology Standards for Teachers).
1. Identify and evaluate components needed for the continual growth of knowledge, skills, and understanding of concepts related to technology.
Artifact for Standard - Technology Needs Assessment (EDA 6271, Spring 2012)
Reflection: This artifact was chosen because it demonstrated my ability to identify and evaluate the components needed for the continual growth of knowledge, skills and understanding of concepts related to the technology use of teachers in a K-12 setting. For example, I worked closely with a 2nd Grade Teacher to identify the technology needs in her classroom and at her school. Time was spent observing the classroom and chatting with the teacher about the need for updated technology in her classroom. This gave me a clear understanding of the concepts related to technology in her classroom. Afterwards, I devised a list of reasons more technology was needed such as to practice math skills, take AR tests, listen to reading stories and have a computer or device for low achieving students to gain extra practice and work to strengthen skills. Also, it was determined that new technology devices and software/apps will help the teacher with classroom management. The teacher could use it to document student work, collect data, manage her lesson plans, and get new ideas for lessons that align to curriculum standards.
B. Demonstrate continual growth in technology knowledge and skills to stay abreast of current and emerging technologies.
1. Offer a variety of professional development opportunities that facilitate the continued growth and development of the understanding of technology operations and concepts.
Artifact for Standard - Professional Development Plan (EME 6050, Fall 2012)
Reflection: This artifact demonstrates my ability to design a variety of professional development activities for teachers. Using Smart boards in the classroom is a way that schools can enhance the use of technology. The Professional Development Plan project was a plan created to train teachers in using smart boards for reading instruction. Four educational goals were established as professional development opportunities. The goals were:
1. Teachers will be able to use smart boards for reading instruction.
2. Teachers will be able to use computers with digital literacy software and websites.
3. Teachers will learn how to integrate media tools for the use in reading and writing.
4. Participants will apply technology tools to their classroom.
Smart boards are a tool for interactive learning and are a means for teachers to enhance reading instruction. They can also be used effectively for student literacy collaboration activities. As a result of this professional development instruction, teachers gained the knowledge necessary for continued growth and development of the understanding of technology operations and concepts.
