Technology literacy
A new revolution has started. We, as well as our students, are unprepared to make the kinds of decisions we must make in the development and application of this and other technologies. We now have the technology to dramatically alter the future in unimagined ways: positively and negatively. We must be about the development of the technological literacy of our youth to ensure a better future for humankind.
Technological literacy is made up of three dimensions - knowledge, ways of thinking and acting, and capabilities. Like literacy in reading, writing, mathematics, or science, the goal of technological literacy is to provide people with the tools to participate intelligently and thoughtfully in the world around them.
People who are technologically literate would. perceive them as capable of learning about technology to achieve specific objectives and extending their influence in the world, even when confronted with unknown and ambiguous situations.
Exhibit willingness to: take control of their decisions.
Invest time and energy in achieving solutions.
Take necessary risks to explore divergent options.
Have an adequate knowledge and skill base to seek, evaluate, and implement technological solutions. They would be able to determine the discrepancy between what they know and what they need to know to achieve appropriate solutions.
Rely on their abilities and knowledge to use technology to meet personal and shared goals and to make a positive difference in the world.
Reflect on how and why they use technology as they go about their every day living.
Reflect on how they and technology interrelate with their surroundings and the technological strategies they use to achieve their objectives.
Use technological devices in the proper manner and use them in a responsible fashion. That means turn them off in the classroom or any where else your undivided attention is. needed
