What is a Grade
A grade is an inadequate report of an inaccurate judgment by a biased and variable judge of the extent to which a student has obtained in undefined level of mastery of an unknown proportion of an indefinite amount of material.
(attributed to Dr. Robert Hanson, author of the very popular high school textbook, century 21 bookkeeping)

The grading scale used by Mr. Rohwedder in all of the Technology Education classes follow the recommended grading scale used by Power School.
The categories for the Technology Classes and 7th grade Geography are as follows:
Attendance - Rational: " In order to get somewhere, you have to be on the train".
Daily Observation - 15%
If you are absent from class it is important that you get, receive, and complete any and all materials and assignments covered that day. Yes, you will miss any interaction with your peers and instructor that day.
Being on Board - 15%
Daily observation is also staying on the train. When you leave the classroom, you are no longer observing in that educational environment. In other words you are not on board. When you are not on task or not paying attention you are not observing the class learning structure you are not on board. Electronic equipment, such as cellphones can be a intritcal part of education. Students can use electronic equipment in a proper way. If you are texting and messaging you are abusing this right and you are not giving the class your full attention you are not on board. Also by doing this you are rude.Your grade will be deducted according. One of Mr. Rohwedder's pet peeves is being rude.
Hard skills and Soft Skills
Hard skills are your technical or functional abilities that apply directly to your job title (i.e. accountant, engineer, project manager, student). Soft skills apply more to your personal characteristics such as effective communication, problem solving and team collaborations These skills will include work ethic, punctuality, and conduct. People with good soft skills succeed at a higher level than those that don't.
Punctuality - 15%
Being late does not make you an important person or a special person. You may be both but not by
being late. Being late once or twice in your life may be unavoidable. Being late consistently makes you unreliable. Being late means you do not respect the other person’s time. Period.
Being late makes you a rude person because you lack consideration and respect for the other person and for the commitment you made to both of you. Your apologies for being late, however profuse and sincere, do not excuse the tardy.
(I am not saying not to apologize, I am saying not to be late!)
Your reasons for being late simply insult the other person’s intelligence.
Work Ethic and Conduct - 15%
Workers exhibiting a good work ethic in theory should be selected for better positions, more responsibility and ultimately promotion. Workers who fail to exhibit a good work ethic may be regarded as failing to provide fair value for the wage the employer is paying them and should not be promoted or placed in positions of greater responsibility. By disrupting the educational process for you or someone else is rude. Being rude is one of Mr. Rohwedder is pet peeves. I expect everyone to follow the "Do Right Rule". This rule applies to cell phone use and attention in class.
The Do Right Rule
“I follow three rules: Do the right thing, do the best you can, and always show people you care. You’ve got to make a sincere attempt to have the right goals to begin with, then go after them with appropriate effort, and remember that you can’t really achieve anything great without the help of others.”
Lou Holtz
Rule #1 – Do right. “Just do the right thing,” Lou says. “We’ve all done dumb things and wish we hadn’t done them, but you can’t go through life with an albatross around your neck saying, ‘I made a mistake.’ Say you’re sorry, make amends and move on.”
Rule #2 – Do everything to the best of your ability with the time allotted. Lou says: “Not everybody will be an All-American. Not everybody will be first team. Not everybody will be great. But everybody can do the best they can with the time allotted.”
Rule #3 – Show people you care. I have seen this rule in action many times. Lou is constantly asking people, “How can I help you? How can I assist you?” And he means it. He has a deep-down burning desire to help people.
Why are grades and a high school diploma important?
Value of a high school diploma
College
While many colleges and universities actually allow people without a diploma to apply for admission, your odds of getting admitted to quality schools are significantly greater when you graduate from high school. Colleges usually require that you submit your transcripts with your application of admission. Seeing that you completed high school can influence the perception of the admissions counselor or committee members as they assess your potential for college success.
Employability
A diploma gives you much better odds of landing a job than someone doesn't complete high school graduation requirements. Department of Labor found that a high school diploma meant you were 37.5% more likely to get a job than those who did not have a diploma. The diploma also enhances your options, as many employers only consider applicants who have graduated from high school.
Better Pay
The same Department of Labor study found that high school diploma holders earned an average of $554 a week compared with $396 earned by employees who lacked a diploma. This adds up to $8,268 more in earnings per year with a diploma. Over the course of a lifetime, the combined earnings differential provides evidence of the tangible value of earning your diploma.
Self-Worth
Earning a high school diploma can provide a significant boost to your self-worth, according to Internet-based Excel High School, which emphasizes this point in recruiting prospective students. Not only does the diploma represent the hard work and education that you have earned, it shows and ability to stick to commitments and persevere through obstacles.
When applying for jobs and building your career, being able to say you have a high school diploma can greatly improve your confidence in professional and relationship development.
