Step 1. Turn computer on.
Step 2. From the Start button, choose Programs.
Open Power Point. A screen will appear similar to the illustration below.
Step 3. Select Blank Presentation.
A dialog box will appear similar to the illustration below.
Step 4. Choose the first slide (it should be highlighted).
This is a title slide.
Step 5. Type “Title of Presentation” in the title text box by clicking the mouse.
Step 6. Place some text in the subtitle box. Anytime you could edit your text, change fonts, change size, or style by using the standard word processing functions.
This will complete your first slide.
Step 7. Create a New Slide by pulling down the Insert pull down menu.
Select the second layout (it should be highlighted).
Click OK.
Step 8. Select the first textbox and insert some text.
Edit it if you wish
Step 9. Select the second text box and insert some text.
Edit it if you wish.
Step 10. Shrink the second text box by selecting the resize handles in the corner or sides and reduce so the text will just fit.
Step 11. Place a graphic below the second text box by pulling down the Insert pull down menu.
Choose from clip art.
Choose the clip art you would like on your slide by clicking on it.
Select Copy by right click on your mouse or the Edit pull down menu.
Step 12. Return to the second slide of Power Point.
Paste the clip art by right clicking on your mouse and choosing Paste or the Edit pull down menu.
Your clip art should appear on your second slide.
You may edit the picture by resizing, cropping it or move in any where on your slide.
Before creating any more slides, lets see what you can do with Power Point.
Step 13. Deselect any elements on your slide (nothing is highlighted or has handles).
Right click your mouse or go up to Format, and select Background.
A dialog box will appear and you can choose different colors to place on your slides. Choose a color and choose Apply (this will effect this slide only). Choose Apply to all and this will affect all your slides.
Backgrounds can be taken from the web also.
Step 14. Deselect any elements on your slide (nothing is highlighted or has handles).
Select Slide Show from the pull down menu.
Choose Slide Transition.
Select a slide transition from the choices.
Choose On mouse click.
Choose Apply (you will return to the second slide).
Step 15. Select Slide Show from the pull down menu.
Choose View Show.
Click your mouse. Watch the magic.
Step 16. Select the first text box on the second slide.
Select Slide Show from the pull down menu.
Choose Custom Animation
Select an entry animation and sound from the choices.
Choose Ok
Step 17. Select Slide Show from the pull down menu.
Choose View Show.
Click your mouse.
Step 18. Select the second text box on the second slide.
Select Slide Show from the pull down menu.
Choose Custom Animation
Select an entry animation and sound from the choices.
Sounds can be retrieved from the web also (these should be in a “wav” or a “midi” format). You can record your own sound too.
Choose Ok
Step 19. Select Slide Show from the pull down menu.
Choose View Show.
Click your mouse.
Step 20. Select the clip art on the second slide.
Select Slide Show from the pull down menu.
Choose Custom Animation.
Select an entry animation and sound from the choices.
Choose On mouse click.
Choose Apply (you will return to the second slide).
Step 21. Select Slide Show from the pull down menu.
Choose View Show.
Click your mouse. Watch the magic.
You can change the slide transition to a timer. Do all kinds of effects to any of your slides, graphics or text. These effects can transit to any one or all of your slides. Have some fun!
Hint: Insert any movies on a blank slide with no animations or transitions.
To help you edit your slide show. Select View from the pull down menu and choose
Slide Sorter (you will now see small thumbnails of your slide show). You can move
these around to suit your needs or to see a transition.
Assignment
Create a Power Point presentation on a subject of your choice. This presentation should include at least eight (8) slides. This presentation will include your video. This presentation should include a digital picture. Be prepared to show your presentation on the huge panoramic big screen in front of your peers.
