Problem: Nurses at the bedside needed to be able to make a neurological assessment of critically ill children.
Solution: A simple color coded infographic for several age ranges that briefly but accurately described neurologic changes in patients in response to different stimuli. This tool provided nurses a just-in-time resource to complete these assessments quickly and accurately. The solution was used successfully and was part of a published study: Kirschen, M. P., Smith, K. A., Snyder, et al. (2021). Serial neurologic assessment in pediatrics (SNAP): A new tool for bedside neurologic assessment of critically ill children*. Pediatric Critical Care Medicine, 22(5), 483–495. https://doi.org/10.1097/pcc.0000000000002675

Problem: Families needed a better understanding of how the day is scheduled when their child is participating in a Clonidine Arginine Study. This includes hours before they arrive at the hospital because fasting is required.
Solution: A simple monochromatic linear timeline with icons and simple text explanations of stages a family will experience for the study.
