I redesigned a Practical English course as a blended learning experience after completing BlendKit, a MOOC from the University of Central Florida and EDUCAUSE. The goal was to balance in-person instruction with flexible online learning to increase engagement with the content, and learners' peers and instructor.
Using UCF’s course design frameworks, I created a course blueprint, mix map, and integration chart to define how online and face-to-face components would complement each other. Online modules introduced key concepts and grammar practice, while classroom sessions emphasized discussion, application, and feedback.
I developed a detailed learning schedule and clear syllabus. I selected Schoology as the LMS for its usability and built an engaging BYOD orientation activity, where students registered, created profiles, and explored the digital environment together. This was supported by a student onboarding tutorial to support a smooth transition into the blended format.
Students reported high satisfaction with the course structure and flexibility, noting improved clarity in expectations and stronger connections between online and classroom learning. The design also served as a model for colleagues exploring blended formats.
