September 21, 2016 Meeting Minutes – Dianne Shewmaker, Secretary

President, Jo Weddle, held a brief meeting prior to today’s program.

Membership: Mike Horvath, Membership Chair, was present at the meeting with membership forms. Local dues are $5.00. New retirees are free this year. IRTA dues are $35. Let Mike know if there is an address or email change. If friends have no email, let them know about meetings.

Constitution/Bylaws Revision: Martha Street is working with a committee to update this document. A proposed copy should be ready for a vote by our next meeting.

Volunteer Hours & Projects: Dianna Johnson, Chair, asks that we keep track of hours we spend volunteering this year. She had sheets available at the meeting for listing volunteer hours. It was stated that even our meetings count for volunteer hours. Bennie Holt showed the Association Member Benefits Advisors Clock Award (given for volunteer hours) she was presented at the IRTA 51st Annual IRTA Annual Representative Assembly in June. One opportunity for volunteering that was suggested was the Teacher’s Warehouse. Volunteers, donations and support are needed. Contact Sue Cull at 812-320-8454 or at: btownteacherswhsemail.com. To donate: drop off gently used or new supplies at the TW facility during hours of operation. To support: fundraise on behalf of TW. Hours: M-Th, 3:30-6:00, Sat., 9:30 to 12:30. Location: 524 N. Legislation: Linda Woods, Chair, reminds us to vote YES for the referendum. If you vote a straight ticket, this doesn't count for referendum. Find the referendum at either the top or bottom of voting sheet.

Today’s Program: Bob Austin introduced today’s speaker, Professor Marjorie Hershey, IU Department of Political Science. The title of her address was “The Strange Election of 2016: What Will Happen?”
