MCRTA Members,
We had a lovely picnic last evening at Karst Park. Delicious food, lovely weather, great fellowship and a good, informative program. Thanks to all who helped, especially Shirley Pugh who filled in for Benny Holt as Social Chair and Nancy and Bob Stockwell who brought coolers with cold drinks.
David Lennen, IRTA Area 8 District Director, presented a report on the IRTA Board of Directors meeting held on Wednesday, April 11. Trudy Paige, Benefits Advisor for AMBA (Association Member Benefits Advisors) presented information on benefits available for IRTA members. If you have questions about benefits, you can contact Trudy at Trudy.paige@amba.info. Thanks to David and Trudy for sharing their evening with us.
Prior to the program a short business meeting included the following:
1. Our delegates at the IRTA Representative Assembly to be held on June 13 will be Martha Street, Linda Woods, Dianna Johnson, Frances Walden and Lucy Young. At that meeting we will receive the following awards: Website: Outstanding, Newsletter: Honorable Mention, and Frances Walden will receive the clock award for Area 8 volunteer service.
2. Thanks to all who reported volunteer hours of service in 2017 - we reached a total of 18,672 (a significant increase over the 14,847 reported for 2016).
3. Program suggestion sheets for 2018-2019 were distributed and filled out. These will be compiled and the program committee will begin their work setting programs for 2018-2019. If you have any suggestions of topics/areas/locations/presenters for next year, be sure to let me know - send suggestions to jweddle2@comcast.net. We need your input.
4. Election of Officers for 2018-2019 - Shirley Pugh led the election of: Joanne Weddle, President; Judith Olmsted, First Vice-President/Program; Mike Horvath, Second Vice-President/Membership; Nancy Stockwell, Secretary; and Martha Street, Treasurer.
5. Committee Chairs are in place with the following still needed:
Necrology Chair and Nominations Committee members.
Thanks to all who have worked with us in MCRTA this year. Look for a newsletter which will arrive the first of September. It will include our list of programs for the year. We look forward to seeing you as we continue to work with our local schools and our active educators and provide volunteer service to our community.
Joanne Weddle, President, MCRTA
