MCRTA CHALLENGES FOR 2018 - 2019
1. In 2017, we reported to IRTA a total of 18,672 volunteer hours by our members. WE HOPE WE
HAVE ACCUMULATED 20,000 DURING 2018. Be sure to send your total number of volunteer
hours for 2018 to Dianna Johnson, 4274 W. Meadowvale Dr., Bloomington, IN 47404 right away.
2. For each of the last three years, one of our members received the Area 8 Clock Award from IRTA
for volunteerism. The hours you sent to Dianna along with your list of community activities reported
contribute toward the selection of these winners. WE HOPE TO HAVE A WIN FOR 2018.
3. MEMBERSHIP CHALLENGE - To increase numbers of members in MCRTA AND IRTA.
The MCRTA Board would like to encourage you to join both MCRTA and IRTA. Our local dues are used to help provide programs and activities throughout the year. IRTA supports retired educators by working to increase pensions and making available many other benefits that can help you save money. IF YOU ARE NOT AN IRTA MEMBER WE ENCOURAGE YOU TO JOIN TODAY.
4. IRTA FOUNDATION - The IRTA Foundation sponsors three programs of note - Scholarships, A
Hand Up, and Active Teacher Grants. Read about these offerings on the IRTA website at
www.retiredteachers.org and encourage others to take advantage of these opportunities. We
were proud to have an Active Teacher Grant awarded to a Monroe County teacher. Sara Mobley, a
first grade teacher at Edgewood Primary School, won a grant this fall to support taking her first
grade students on a visit to the Exotic Feline Rescue Center as part of their class jungle theme.
5. CHECK OUR WEBSITE - http://sites.google.com/site/monroecountyretiredteachers
