Engineer's Breadboard

Just as those who dabble in electrickery have use for a 'breadboard' to assist in laying out their arcane circuits before final assembly, engineers in the noble art of steamworks have a 'breadboard' of their own. This well-preserved example of a Griffiths Patent Engineers Breadboard No.8 is used to arrange and plan gear trains and associated mechanisms before casting and machining even starts, thus displaying any faults in design that may prove catastrophic at a later stage.
