Graduation REquirements
Forty-four (44) credits must be earned during grades 9-12 for graduation from high school. One credit is earned for a semester’s study or the equivalent.
Of the 44 credits needed for graduation, the following are required:
English – Eight credits (equivalent to four years)
Social Studies – Six credits (equivalent to three years)
(1) United States History – (2 semesters)
(1) Government
(1) Economics
Mathematics - Six credits
Science – Six credit
Physical Education - Four credits
Financial Literacy - One credit
Electives – Thirteen credits
A minimum of thirteen (13) additional credits must be earned in addition to the above required credits so as to fulfill the requirement of 44 total credits for graduation.
Graduation requirements may be adjusted for transfer students.
Cap & Gown
This year, Mason City High School is working with Josten's for caps and gowns.
Mandatory senior meetings will be held on Friday, Sept. 22 in the IC. At this time, seniors will sign off on their FULL LEGAL NAME for their diploma and meet with Craig from Josten's.
8:00-8:30 am for students unable to attend other sessions.

This year, Mason City High School is working with Josten's for caps and gowns. Please watch for more information as the school year begins.
This is it! The culminating experience for Mason City High School students...the COMMENCEMENT CEREMONY! This is a dignified ceremony that celebrates ALL of the accomplishments of ALL students. This is the one day each year that all seniors come together wearing the same outfit culminating with the receiving of the high school diploma. Graduation is a privilege for those that meet the requirements to participate.
Yearbook /Senior photo
Senior photos must be submitted no later than Friday, Jan. 12, 2024.
Photos must be vertical
Photos should be a head and shoulder shot
No props, hats, sunglasses, pets, selfies, masks, holding items, or sitting on a car, motorcycle, etc.

If you don't plan to have senior portraits taken, that's ok! We'll use your school portrait taken in the fall.

School Fees and Fines: includes outstanding book fines or fees.
The waiver form does not cover the cost of cap and gown fees. Outstanding fees and/or fines must be paid before graduation. Log into the Touchbase webstore to view any fees and fines on your student's account.
