Forty-four (44) credits must be earned during grades 9-12 for graduation from high school. One credit is earned for a semester’s study or the equivalent.
Of the 44 credits needed for graduation, the following are required:
English – Eight credits (equivalent to four years)
Social Studies – Six credits (equivalent to three years)
(1) United States History – (2 semesters)
(1) Government
(1) Economics
Mathematics - Six credits
Science – Six credit
Physical Education - Four credits
Electives – Thirteen credits
A minimum of thirteen (13) additional credits must be earned in addition to the above required credits so as to fulfill the requirement of 44 total credits for graduation.
Graduation requirements may be adjusted for transfer students.
This year, Mason City High School is working with Josten's for caps and gowns.
Mandatory senior meetings will be held on Monday, Sept. 22 in the FEMA room. At this time, seniors will sign off on their FULL LEGAL NAME for their diploma and meet with Craig from Josten's.

This is it! The culminating experience for Mason City High School students...the COMMENCEMENT CEREMONY! This is a dignified ceremony that celebrates ALL of the accomplishments of ALL students. This is the one day each year that all seniors come together wearing the same outfit culminating with the receiving of the high school diploma. Graduation is a privilege for those that meet the requirements to participate.
Senior photos must be submitted no later than Friday, Dec. 19, 2025.

No props, hats, sunglasses, pets, selfies, masks, holding items, or sitting on a car, motorcycle, etc.
