ACCOUNTING - 203211

Students will study double-entry accounting and will be provided with the opportunity to interpret financial statements. Students will explore accounting for service and merchandise and corporate businesses, payroll accounting, banking, depreciation, and debt.

COMPUTER APPLICATIONS IN BUSINESS - 203313

Students will use Microsoft products to study advanced skills in word processing, spreadsheets, database organization, and presentation software. This will provide a background in Microsoft business applications which is an essential part of being skilled in the workforce today and will be useful in numerous careers.

ENTREPRENEURSHIP - 203533

Students will explore small business opportunities while independently developing, planning, marketing, and financing a simulated small business. This course requires self-discipline and motivation by the student. Emphasis is placed on research, business communication, and presentation.

INTRO TO BUSINESS - 203003

Students are exposed to their roles in our economy, entrepreneurship, marketing, management, business finance, business ethics, influential laws relating to business, and various forms of leadership. Overall, this course provides a general understanding of what business is, how it affects us, and will provide a foundation for other business courses.

INTRODUCTION TO COMPUTER SCIENCE - 203046

An introductory course over an array of computer science related topics. The topics covered will include the following: how computers work, simple algorithms and their efficiency, networking, databases, artificial intelligence, graphics and graphic design, computer simulations, introduction to coding, and security and social impact of computing.

SPORTS AND ENTERTAINMENT MARKETING 2 - 901290

Students will learn the key functions of marketing, product promotion, and social media marketing. These experiences will be learned through the production of Podcasts, Video Production, and Enhanced Print Media.  Be prepared to learn and experience a unique and exciting course focused solely on making MCHS and our community a better place to live, work, and play through sports and entertainment!

WORK BASED LEARNING PROGRAM - New

The Work-Based Learning Program is a school-business partnership that is designed to provide students with valuable learning experience to explore a specific career of interest to the student. You will earn dual credit from MCHS and NIACC.  This program will be 3 semesters long (2nd semester junior year - senior year) 

NIACC WBL-100 Exploring Careers - 808982

Students will receive guidance in choosing a career goal and prepare for employment.  Emphasis will be based on identifying interests, abilities, and values when choosing a career.

NIACC WBL-110 Employability Skills - 828398

Covers all aspects of professional job placement procedures including career goal setting, developing prospective employer lists, resume writing, job application forms, employment tests, personal appearance, interviewing, and follow-up.

NIACC WBL-150 Job Shadowing - 828399

Students in this course will explore a field of interest while developing research skills, professionalism, and building occupational knowledge. Students will visit workplaces of interest to learn about specific jobs and professional requirements, and to develop a basic knowledge of the organization's structure and values. 

Internship - 1 credit

Work at one business for the semester in an internship.  Hours will vary based on the job and other factors.  Interns must be approved by Mason City High School and must go through the hiring process of the business offering the internship.
