When does the school day start and end? 

School starts at 8:35 a.m. and ends at 3:40 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. On Wednesdays, the school day starts at 8:35 a.m. and ends at 2:20 p.m.


If my student is going to be absent or needs to leave school early, who do I call? 

Please call our attendance office at 641-421-4436. Lisa Brock is our attendance secretary.

Can we come to the school a couple days early to find classrooms and my student’s locker?

Please watch for more information about this prior to the start of the school year. 

 

How does my student get their class schedule? 

Schedules will be available to view in student PowerSchool accounts a few days prior to the first day of school. If there are questions or concerns about a schedule, please contact the MCHS office at 641-421-4436.

When is lunch? 

Students are assigned to one of 3 lunch periods based on their 5th period class. Students are able to choose 1 entree, 4 sides, and a milk. The lunch menu can be viewed HERE. Freshmen and sophomores do not have open campus privileges, and may not leave school grounds for lunch. 


What athletics or activities are offered at the high school?

Athletics include: cross country, football, golf, swimming, volleyball, basketball, bowling, wrestling, soccer, tennis, track and field, baseball and softball. 


Activities include: Academic decathlon, anime and manga club, art club, band, orchestra, cheerleading, Best Buddies and Special Olympics, drama club, dance team, FCA, industrial technology club, Model UN, hockey, mountain bike club, robotics, National Art Honor Society, National Honor Society, speech team, student senate, trap shooting, vocal music, and youth action team. 


How do I register my student for athletics?

Athletic registration should be done through Bound

 

We will open the 2023-2024 athletic registration in late July and encourage you to register your student as soon as registration opens.  Please note that the fall high school sports (fall cheerleading, boys and girls cross country, football, boys golf, girls swimming, and volleyball) begin practices on August 7, 2023.  

 

How or when can my student take NIACC classes? 

NIACC courses are offered to MCHS students during their junior and senior years. 


Does MCHS offer driver’s education? 

The driver’s ed program operates independent of the high school through a company called Street Smarts Driver’s Ed. 


Can students carry backpacks, water bottles or cell phones during school?

No backpacks are allowed. Clear water containers are allowed. Cell phones may be used in hallways, between classes, and other public areas except for in the restroom, locker rooms and classrooms. The Student Handbook has a complete list of policies and can be viewed here.


If my student drives to school, do they need a parking pass and where do they park? 

Yes, students who park in the MCHS lot will need to register their vehicle and purchase a parking sticker. The cost is $10 and it’s good for the life of the vehicle. Vehicle registration forms are available in the high school offices.
