FRESHMAN SUCCESS (REQUIRED)
Freshmen Success is designed to help incoming students smoothly transition into high school while building the skills they need to thrive academically, socially, and personally. In this course, freshmen will work closely with their Freshmen Success teacher and MVP (Mentors in Violence Prevention) upperclassman mentors, who provide guidance and support throughout the year.
Students will learn strategies for time management, organization, and study skills to achieve academic success. The course also focuses on fostering positive relationships, effective communication, and social responsibility, empowering freshmen to become active and engaged members of the school community.
Through interactive activities, group discussions, and goal-setting exercises, freshmen will gain confidence, develop a strong sense of belonging, and understand the importance of regular attendance and participation in school. MVP
This innovative course empowers high school upperclassmen to take on leadership roles as mentors to freshmen students, fostering a positive and inclusive school culture. Through the implementation of the nationally recognized Mentors in Violence Prevention (MVP) Program, upperclassmen will lead interactive lessons on bystander awareness, equipping freshmen with strategies to safely and effectively intervene in harmful situations.
Beyond addressing violence prevention, the course emphasizes holistic support for freshmen, with mentors guiding their mentees in developing habits for academic success, including attending classes regularly and achieving passing grades. Students will engage in role-playing scenarios, team-building activities, and open discussions to create a culture of respect, responsibility, and connection throughout the school.
This hands-on, collaborative program not only strengthens the school community but also provides upperclassmen with leadership experience, communication skills, and a deeper understanding of social responsibility.
