Learning Environment
The competent teacher uses an understanding of individual and group motivation and behavior to create a learning environment that encourages positive social interaction, active engagement in learning, and self-motivation.
A classroom management plan is essential for a teacher to have control in the classroom and provide a safe and exciting environment for the students. Standard IV states, “The competent teacher uses an understanding of individual and group motivation and behavior to create a learning environment that encourages positive social interaction, active engagement in learning, and self-motivation.” I have had the opportunity to make my own classroom management plan that I will use as an elementary teacher. This project fulfills the required needs that are to be met for Standard IV.
I believe all students should be presented with the opportunity to learn in an environment that is safe, interesting, and motivational. Students from all backgrounds need to feel emotionally and physically safe. By creating management plans that include rules, consequences, and procedures, I am able to ensure a high level of safety for all my future students. My plan includes ways to appeal to diverse learners and remain culturally unbiased. This leads to a positive atmosphere and enhances the learning experiences.
Collaborative learning in this environment will enable students to develop respect for others and their differences and continue to enhance social skills. Performance indicator 5L of Standard IV is met because my plan includes analyzing the environment and making decisions to boost social relationships, motivation, and productive group work while retaining mutual respect for each other. Using my daily classroom lesson slide allows all of us to be on the same page. Students see their learning standard and I read it to them by demonstrating what we will be doing in that lesson today as a whole group
Students learn to take responsibility for their objective goals in learning with the aid of the teachers instruction and preparedness. They will be made aware of all classroom expectations with the guidance of the posted slide as we prepare to start today's lesson.
Fine Arts
Fine Arts is an aesthetic value, it is defined as a subject beneficial, not essential, to the learning process and is often phased out because of lack of time, little learning potential, and financial cost. Fine arts is more than just painting and drawing, it is not teaching about the arts, it is teaching through the arts. After performing and engaging in the multitude of Fine arts lesson plans in this unit, it became more evident that it complements and enriches each lesson plan while motivating the learner. It is vital that it should be incorporated into the core curriculum (i.e. math, science, social studies), it reinforces the students learning experience, and it encourages creative thinking, which is the highest level of learning. It reaches out to all learners and accommodates the idea that ‘no child should be left behind’.
Students utilize their abstract thinking, using logic and rationale, sourcing out a deeper meaning of the lessons prepared by the teachers, this is beneficial in the development and growth of our children. It encourages self-esteem, formulates challenges, breaks down social barriers, and encourages group work while empowering our educational system. Even though we are talking about a visible physical object ‘art’, I found its major benefits are less visible, for instance; the enrichment of the student's mind and soul, the development of the child internally is empowering. When it allows them to comprehend with extended learning styles, that could otherwise be lost due to budget cuts or current affairs. It's a valuable piece to their mental and physical development.
