So. I'm out having coffee at a local watering hole a week ago and this couple sitting behind me are having an overly loud conversation. You know. That kind of conversation where they want people to hear their thoughts vocalised. Dazzled with their considered opinions.
One announces to the other, that forgiveness and reconciliation are different things. It was a bit more convoluted than that, but you get the drift.
Tempted to correct the error but able to bite my tongue. I refrained.
So for their benefit -
Forgiveness and Reconciliation.
Forgive. 1. To give up resentment against or stop wanting to punish (someone) for an offense or fault; pardon.
Reconciliation. To settle or resolve. To bring (oneself) to accept.
The act of forgiveness includes the act of reconciliation.. To give up resentment (ill will) is an act of bringing oneself to accept.
