Directing a One Act

Post date: Jan 11, 2016 2:23:52 AM

Coming up after the Musical, we will have our 2016 One Act Festival. For those of you who don't know, our One Act Festival consists of several student-directed and student-produced (sometimes student-written), One Act plays. In the past the selection of these plays has been on a first come-first served basis. However, in an attempt to make this a little more fair, this year we will be reviewing all show proposals and choosing the shows (and their respective directors), from a pool of possibilities.

Along those lines, if you are interested in directing a one act, you will need to find the show you are interested in directing, make sure you will be able to attain the rights, and fill out the form attached below. The form should be given to Carol Piersol via her school mail box (if you don't know what/where that is, feel free to give your form to any member of the board, or Adaline Farmer), by February 15th, along with a paper copy of your script.

The following items will be taken into account when reviewing your form:

    1. Appropriate-ness of script for the high school setting

    2. Grade level

    3. Previous directing experience (not necessarily required, this is a complicated area-- if you have already directed at MLWGS your chances of directing again may actually go down)

    4. Length of show (30 minutes or less is preferable)

    5. Cast size

    6. MOST IMPORTANTLY: you will, in most cases, be given priority if you attend the directing workshop on, tentatively, February 6th. If you have already attended the directing workshop or have extenuating circumstances, feel free to contact Adaline Farmer (the Stage Manager)

Don't forget that the deadline to submit your form is February 15th! Get excited!
