Attached is a flyer from SFPE for a fire protection symposium that might be of interest to the investigation community. It will be held at CU on April 23.
On a separate note, I got a call today from a detective in Wisconsin that was looking to organize a fire investigation task force for their county. The county makeup is not dis-similar to our county with many smaller fire agencies and a number of law agencies. They had asked their local ATF CFI for some advice. The local ATF agent put out the word to the nationwide group. They got back a number of packets of information, including the documentation that the MAFIT team has gathered. It is unknown if this came through Chris or some other path back to the Wisconsin ATF agent.
The detective said that the MAFIT organizational documents, forms, and application were far above anything else they had seen around the country. He called to ask if we were as good as our documentation made us appear to be. We had a great half-hour chat of the history of the team, how we are organized, why things worked and what would we like to improve. He was very complementary of our stuff and said they were going to model their team after the MAFIT paradigm.
Much of this credit goes to our Master of Documentation, John Bohn. His continuing efforts to make sure we have all the structure, guiding documents and forms we need, and that they are kept up-to-date have really made a difference in how we are perceived.
Just thought you would like to know,
