“The Petition of John Caldwell – late from Nova Scotia—Son of a Loyalist – who joined His Majestys Standard – before the Peace—respectfully shews That your Petitioner is one of those who Capn Ryerse applied to settle at Long point Settlemt - & that your Petitioner has recd the annexed recommendation finds it will not locate west of the Grand River— That your petitioner is desirous to settle on the lands of the Crown in this Province, being in a condition to cultivate and improve the same. That he has taken the usual oaths, & is ready to subscribe the declaration, that he professes the Christian Religion, and obedience to the laws, and has lived inoffensively in the country which he has left. Prays your Excellency, would be pleased to grant him at Long Point Settlet 300 acres of land upon the terms and conditions expressed in your Excellency’s proclamation bearing date the 7th day of February, 1792, or such other quantity of land as to your Excellency in your wisdom may think meet. “The Petition of George Campbell—carpenter 21 years of age—Respectfully shews—That your Petitioner has served nine years of apprentiship to George Young of the Town of Newark and purposes in a short time to set up his Trade—That your petitioner is desirous to settle on the lands of the Crown in this Province, being in a condition to cultivate and improve the same. “Most Humbly Sheweth That your Petitioners Father Thomas Carty Served in the third Battn New Jersey Volunteers and was Killed at the Battle at the Eutaw Springs in Carolina. Your Petitioner Therefore Most Humbly Prayeth A Grant of four Hundred Acres of Land, Two Hundred Acres for Himself and Two Hundred Acres on Account of His Fathers Servitude, and that the same may be located in Some Part of the Country of Long Point and your Petitioner as in Duty Bound will Ever Pray [Signed] Thomas Carty” Received at the Executive Council Office on 20 Jan 1797 and read in Council on 28 Feb 1798. “That your Petitioner is, and Always Has been A true and Faithful Friend to the British Government, and that Her first Husband Thomas Carty, Served His Majesty Near five years As A Corporel in the Third Battalion, New Jersey Volunteers, in the time of the Late Rebellion in America and was wounded in the time of the Battle at the Eutaw Springs in South Carolina, and Died of His wound in the Hospital in Charles Town. That your Petitioner Had One Son and One Daughter by Him. Upper Canada Land Petition of John Cartwright dated at Newark (Niagara-on-the-Lake) on 18 Aug 1795

“Humbly Sheweth That your Petitioner came to this Province in 1793 and was encouraged by a General application made by Men that came in with him to Settle in Long Point Bay. —Your Excellency’s Petitioner has made a Good improvement on the Premises where he now Lives, and hopes you will consider him, as he has been enrolled in the Militia and has taken the Oath to His Majesty; and will to the utmost of his Power ever support the British constitution. Wherefore he prays your Excellency will confirm him in his present improvement Lot No 17 and hopes you will give him a further Grant in the Rear Concession of the said Lot to Accomodate his Family and your Petitioner will ever pray—[Signed] John Cartwright” Received at the Executive Council Office on 20 Aug 1795 and read in Counci on 5 Jul. Upper Canada Land Petition of Abner Casaday of Ancaster Township, Wentworth County [on a preprinted form with fill-ins]

“The Petition of Abner Casaday of the Township of Ancaster and District of Gore, Potter. Humbly Sheweth, That your petitioner is the son of Daniel Casaday late of the Township of Niagara Deceased and enrolled U. E. Loyalist, is of the full age of twenty one years, has taken the Oath of Allegiance, and has never had any lands, or order for lands from the Crown. Therefore humbly prays that your Excellency may be pleased to grsnt him two hundred acres of the waste lands of the Crown. And permit Alexander Stervant of York Gentleman to be his agent to locate the same and take out the Deed when completed. ‘Upper Canada Land Petition of Abner Cassaday of the township of Ancaster in the County of Wentworth and District of Gore dated in June 1823

“Humbly sheweth — That  your Petitioner was born in this Province, that he has a wife and two Children, that he has taken the oath of allegiance, and that he performed Military Duty during the late war with the United States — & he has  received an Order for 200 acres as Son of a UE but no military Lands and is desirous to obtain a grant paying fees. Your Petitioner therefore humbly requests that your Excellency will be pleased to order him a grant of 100 acres of the waste Lands of the Crown, if to your Excellency shall seem meet and proper, Subject to the payment of such Fees, as are charged to other applicants for Land. Upper Canada Land Petition of Daniel Cassida dated at Newark (Niagara-on-the-Lake) on 7 Jul 1795 [Requesting a Location in the Long Point Settlement but did not settle there]

“Humbly Sheweth That your Petitioner to evince His Loyalty to His Majesty lost his property and traveled through an extensive Wilderness from Pennsylvania to the Garrison of Niagara, and Joined Colo Butlers Rangers and partook of the Fatigues and Dangers with that Corps; was wounded in defence of His Majesty’s Crown and Dignity, & notwithstanding he in some measure is disabled, he would still give fresh proof of his Loyalty if his service should be required. Wherefore he prays your Excellency will give him a Grant of Land in the vicinity of Long Point, where he would be happy to live among his old fellow Sufferers. That your Petitioner in order to favour an Idea, or Intention entertained by the Loyalists of Sussex County in the Province of New Gersey, in or about the month of January 1776 to Erect the Royal Standard in the said County of Sussex, Subscribed their name in writing to an Enrollment under John Pettit, who was Nominated as an officer in a Battalion to be raised for that purpose and your Petitioner also humbly hopes, that the said John Pettit had legal Authority to take such Enrollment, will appear to your Honors Satisfaction by Voucher No 3 also accompanying this Petition. That your Petitioner embraced the opportunity of once more placing himself & Family under the Protection of His Majestys Government and accordingly in the Year of Our Lord 1794 departed from his Native Country, and by Divine Aid safely arrived in this Province, and am become a Settler in the Same. That Notwithstanding your Petitioner having conceived that by Subscribing his name to the Enrollment as above mentioned, his steady & unshaken Loyalty & Severe sufferings on that account, he had uniformly adhered to the Unity of the Empire and had actually join’d the Royal Standard in America before the Separation of the Empire in 1783. Yet he is advised that he does not come within the description of those Loyalists who were admitted on the U. E. List by the Court of Quarter Sessions. Upper Canada Land Petition of John Coltman, Serjeant late in the 1st Battalion of the Royal Regiment of New York dated at Niagara on 29 Mar 1793

“Most humbly Sheweth That your Petitioner has served in the Sea Services from the year 1774 till the year 1776 when, at the Siege of Quebec, he was ordered to go on Shore and take up Arms in the Land Service in defence of that City. That your Petitioner, after the expulsion of the Americans from Quebec, proceeded to Montreal, where he engaged in the King’s Royal Regiment of New York, Commanded by Sir John Johnson, in which Corps he served honestly & faithfully for the Space of 8 years.—That on application to the Land board Sitting at Montreal, your Petitioner was assigned two hundred Acres of Land by that board, Situate on the Ottoway River, which, as it is very unfrequented, and not fit for any public business, which your petitioner wishes to carry on, he is willing with your Excellency’s leave to give up.—In Consideration of which your Petitioner most humbly prayeth that your Excellency would be pleased to grant him two hundred Acres of Land at Toronto, and two hundred more on the head of Lake Ontario. Upper Canada Land Petition of John Coltman late Serjeant in Sir John Johnson’s Corps dated at Newark (Niagara-on-the-Lake) on 22 Jul 1795

“Humbly sheweth That your Petitioner in the year 1774 was in His Majesty’s Navy, and employed at Boston. That he was afterwards ordered to Quebec and did Duty in that Garrison during the winter of the Siege thereof and afterwards Served seven years & half in the above mentioned Corps from which he has his discharge—That your Petitioner has received two Hundred acres of Land in this Province, Humbly prays your Excellency will be pleased to grant him such further quantity of Lands, as from his services he may be thought deserving of and that they may be located to him near Long Point, where he wishes to settle—And your Petitioner as in Duty bound will ever pray.” [Signed] John Coltman. “Respectfully Sheweth—That your Petitioner served His Majesty In many Capacities during the late American war and on the reduction of 1783 was reduced as a Serjt in Sir John Johnsons Regt. Your Petitioner on Stating his Services in a former Petition, and producing his discharge was allowed 500 acres—That your Petitioner took up a lot at Long Point said to contain 200 acres part of his 500 acres, and on which he has erected a Store with merchandise but on being Surveyed fell short about 40 acres—Your Petitioner therefore hopes from the improvement he has made, both in Newark and Long Point and the line he is now in your Honor will be pleased to recommend him and allow him such further addition as to your Honor may seem meet, and your Petitioner as in duty bound will ever pray—[Signed] John Coltman” Received at the Executive Council Office on 8 May 1797 and read in Council on 10 May. “The Petition of John Coltman – of Newark merchant, late Serjt in the Kings Royal Regiment of New York—That your Petitioner bore arms in His Majestys Service from the year 1774 to the end of the American war – was at Boston in 1778 – and at Quebec in the Siege of that place – and in several actions afterwards—That your Petitioner has been settled at this place, as a merchant, four years, and has a Store and House on his Lot in Charlotteville where he occasionally resides, and keeps a Clerk – and has upwards of Twenty acres cleared thereon—That your Petitioner has received his military Lands – the greater part of which he has been permitted to locate in the Long point Settlement – but owing to the broken part of his front Lot he took 40 acres, to complete his military Complement – Lot No 19 – 3rd Concess: and since applied for the whole of this Lot in order to make a farm, as it is not contiguous to his other Land – but 100 acres only in addition were granted your Petitioner, leaving 60 acres of the Lot yet vacant – Your Petitioner therefore humbly prays  your Honor will be pleased to indulge him with a grant of the remaining part of the aforesaid Lot – and as in duty bound your Petitioner will ever pray—[Signed] John Coltman” “Petitioner has made great improvements on the Lot & going to live on it with his family, prays to be confirmed in the 60 Acres under the N R. “Humbly sheweth, That your Petitioner is very desirous to obtain permission to commence publick business in the Town of Charlotteville Township of Charlotteville, County of Norfolk and District of London, provided he can be fortunate enough to procure from your Excellency, and Honors a Location in the said Town, for that purpose. Your Petitioner therefore most Humbly Prays, that your Excellency and Honors will be pleased to take his case into consideration and Grant to your Petitioner, the Lot Number one, on Court Street in the said Town of Charlotteville for such Terms of Purchase and Improvement, as to your Excellency and Honors shall seem meet, and your Petitioner as in duty bound will ever Pray [Signed] John Coltman” Received at the Executive Council Office on 4 Apr 1801 and read in Council on 8 Apr 1801.
