Bill Fero

This portrait possibly taken in the 1870’s has written on the back “Bill Fero”. It is posted in the hope of learning more about this man. He might be the William Fero aged eleven in the family of Hiram and Elizabeth (Wilson) Fero listed in the 1852 Census of Walpole Township, Haldimand County.

Hiram Fero lived in Charlotteville and Walsingham Townships around 1836 then operated an inn in Windham Township during the 1838 to 1841 period. The children of his first marriage to Malinda Burger lived in the area of St. Williams, Norfolk County. In the family of his second marriage to Elizabeth Wilson were James of whom nothing more is known, William, and Ann Elizabeth who married William Hamilton Mulkins and lived in Simcoe and Toronto.

In the 1881 Census of Simcoe, one William Fero was listed singly as a bookkeeper, aged 40, and a member of the Church of England. He was living with George and Anna Marie Dredge. In the 1901 Census of South Walsingham Twp., one William Fero was listed as a widower born on December 7, 1844. He was boarding with George and Alma Campbell. No marriage record has yet been found for him.
