Android OS update notes

Post date: Nov 29, 2015 5:10:37 AM

Why? To install Android version that is much higher than the one supported by the manufacturer.

*** root is NOT needed

Directions for SGS2:

1. Boot to Odin mode. From PC, use Odin exe to install ClockworkMod (CWM) recovery on the device  [1].

2. Boot to Recovery. Update CWM-based Recovery if needed [2].

3. In CWM-based Recovery, wipe old data (usually 4 directories) [2].

4. In CWM-based Recovery, install OS rom, gapp (Google app-pico, i.e. only Google Play Service, preferred), and superSU(root, if needed) zip.

For GT-P6200, see [3].

For the legacy SGS 4G/SGH-T959V , things are more complicated. Proceed with the following steps:

1. Install CWM RED (CWM 3.0.2) using Odin from [6], e.g. stock+Voodoo-T959VKJ1.tar.

2. Update to CWM BLUE (CWM 5.0.2) using CWM RED [9], e.g. BlastOff! by Team Acids.

3.  Install ROM and gapps according to [5] or [8].

4. If the phone got bricked, use the following one-click flash [4] to fix it.

5. For a general workflow, see [7].
