PJ, conceived as a satellite town with predominantly industrial and residential contents. It can be divided into 3 major portion, that is PJ North, PJ Centre and PJ South. PJ North, the stretch which covers Damansara Utama, Bandar Utama, Mutiara Damansara, Kota Damansara and Damansara Perdana. PJ Centre comprise of Kelana Jaya, Old Airport Road and Sec 16. PJ South included PJ NewTown, OldTown, PJ City, Sec 14 and Sec 19.
Traditionally, Petaling Jaya Old Town or State are the activity hubs in PJ. Until Damansara Utama built office tower at Damansara Uptowns, this area of PJ became the subject of focus. Other up-coming purpose built offices in PJ include Sec 14 and Sec 19 area, The whole Section 13 area has been zoned for commercial use. Nowadays Jalan Kemajuan is very much considered a main thoroughfare and with its close proximity to the Federal and Sprint highways, such as those in Jaya 33, which is fully occupied, and 3 2 Square’s tower block 99% full.

The incoming supply will continue at PJ location. Additionally, some industrial areas within PJ are slowly being rezoned into limited commercial areas. It will become a desirable address.
