The pieces below are undocumented except as otherwise noted.

If you have a piece not listed in the new book or on this page, send me photos (LRGoodger at gmail dot com) and I will add it to this page and credit you with its submission. #8.7 2003 Big E Arrest HM MM

Stamped by Bernard von Nothaus

#47.1 2006/2007 $20 Wisconsin HM MM

Stamped by Bernard von Nothaus

This Wisconsin state outline hallmark was created especially for the 2007 Milwaukee ANA piece. It was stamped on them (see the #54 reverse on the $20 base page) as they were sold at that event.

This is a special piece BVNH did just for me at the event, and I watched as he stamped them. I bought a tube of 20 pieces with the WI hallmark and Bernard's personal mint mark on the Generic (GI) 2006/2007 double date (#47). I do not know if he ever did any others like this.

#11 2004 (short hair lock) $20 😁

Photos compliments of Sterling Ward.

This is in the new book, but presented here for comparison purposes

#11.5 2004 (long hair lock) $20

Photos compliments of Sterling Ward.

This is in the new book, but shows a hairlock that touches the T. I have not been able to confirm such a piece. Considering the Sunshine mint requirement of a 1000 piece minimum run, there should be at least that many. If there were, one would show up on ebay on occasion, but none has ever been found for confirmation. If you have such a piece, please send me a good photo of it and it will be posted here with credit to you. The piece above shows a hair lock that is slightly longer than the short hair of #11, but nowhere near touching the T. See the closeup under that piece for a comparison of the two hair locks. The short hair has a pointed tip. The longer hair of the 11.5 has a rounded tip, but does not touch the T.

Sterling's sharp eyes searched for years for a hairlock that touched the T to no avail, but he did find this distinctively different hairlock made by a different die.

#15.1 2005 (long hair lock) $20 MM

Stamped by Bernard von Nothaus

I don't know how common these are, but I know they came from Sterling Ward.

#57.45 2008 $20 10th Anniversary Small HM

Stamped by Bernard von Nothaus

BVNH sent three of these to me. They were stamped with the small 10th anniversary hallmark punch that was made for stamping the smaller 1/5 and 1/10 ounce pieces. I don't know if he did any others like this or if he did them special for me.

2006 $5 1/4 ounce Type I (bird beak) 😁

This is my original photo of the 1/4 ounce piece that has been on this site since the piece was introduced in 2006. I had noticed there was something funny looking about the mouth and chin on this piece, but never followed up on it until Sterling Ward told he he had several different varieties of it. I call this the 'bird beak' pattern because of the pointed, parted lips. The chin also juts out more than any of the other liberty patterns. I know this was the first die used because I ordered a full brick as soon as they were announced.

2006 $5 1/4 ounce Type II (Curved nose bridge)

Sterling Ward discovered this and sent me this piece.

This piece has a quite curved nose bridge as opposed to all of the other 1/4 ounce types, which have a straight nose bridge. Also, the chin is more prominent than the classic but not jutting out as much as the bird beak. The lips are very similar to the bird beak.

2006 $5 1/4 ounce Type III (bird beak filled)

Sterling Ward discovered this and sent me this piece.

This piece is a bird beak but the area between the neck and hairlock is not mirror finished, so it looks filled in. Not sure if this is a different die or if the original die was somehow changed (chipped?).

2006 $5 1/4 Type IV Classic

Sterling Ward discovered this and sent me this piece.

This piece has the classic nose, mouth and chin of the tradtional patterns. This appears to be the version that was used in the new collector guide but It is hard to tell because of the small size of the photos in that book.

2006 $5 1/4 oz Type II MM

(MM $175 on 4/24/2026 by Billyboiiicoiiins whatnot)

Stamped by Bernard von Nothaus

I don't know how common these are, but I know they came from Sterling Ward.

2005 $10 ($20 Base) 1/2 Oz Type III Bird Beak 😁

This piece has a very lightly engraved TRUST IN GOD and bridge on the nose. The bridge is curved like the one on the 1/4 oz. type II. The bird beak is very similar to that one as well. If you get a bright light on it and tip it around, you can see the full TRUST IN GOD, but it will also partially dissappear as shown. The hair lock on this one appears much shorter than the type I short hair, but under a bright light you can see most of it. Sterling theorizes that this die was touched up to result in the Type I short hair with a stronger hair and motto. See the $10 pieces on the fractionals page (1/2, 1/4, 1/20) for more info on this piece.

$500 Gold Matched Serial Number Set

There is no serial numbered $500 gold piece in the new book. Bernard ran a sale on these matched serial number sets of specie and certificate in 2004. I ordered a set and I got number 40, as shown below, indicating that there were probably at least 40 sets done, perhaps 50. We don't know because they are not in the book. The certificate is signed and dated on the back, making it a redeemable certificate. The redeemable $500 certificate in the book does not show the blue border and background for the two 500 numbers in the upper corners that is on this one.

Proof Test Strikes

The FREEDOM Hawaii mule test strikes below were listed on ebay on 8/26/2026. I had never seen them before. I managed to acquire both this set and the similar PEACE mules on the next day. These are proof test strike prototypes, likely done by mint employees and sold by them many years later (pure speculation, but the only plausible explanation I can think of). The LIBERTY/Hawaii mules at the bottom were listed on ebay on 8/29/2026, subsequent to my securing of the Freedom and Peace sets. I secured those as well.

2009 FREEDOM/Hawaii mule proof prototype test strikes

2009 PEACE/Hawaii mule proof prototype test strikes

2009 LIBERTY/Hawaii mule proof prototype test strikes

I was extremely fortunate to find another, ungraded, set of these Liberty/Hawaii mule test strikes. They are for sale. Contact me if you are interested at LRGoodger at gmail.com. They are VERY rare.

2026 250th ANNIVERSARY proof prototype test strikes, silver, copper, brass

These are serial numbered on the edge. This is set 09/15, which means set #9 of only 15 made. The obverse is the standard NORFED Liberty head.
