There are so many varieties of the Puerto Rico Liberty Dollar that I decided they warrant their own page. The PR LD was championed by PR RCO Alfredo Pacheco, who unfortunately fell into legal troubles unrelated to Liberty Dollar and wound up with a lengthy prison sentence. Counting three varieties for most of the designs because of GI (general issue), HM (hallmarked) and SN (serial numbered) versions, there are a total of 24 different pieces. The seven base varieties that exist in GI, HM and SN for 21 pieces are;
2006 $10 (GI, HM, SN)
2006 $20 (GI, HM, SN)
2007 $20 LIBERTY (GI, HM, SN)
2007 $20 LIBERTAD (GI, HM, SN)
2008 $20 flag stamp (GI, HM, SN)
2008 $50 flag stamp (GI, HM, SN)
2009 $50 BORICUA (GI, HM, SN)
The three that exist as stand alone are;
PR1 2005 $10 HM
PR5 2006 $10 long hair (undocumented by Bernard but I have had one since 2006)
PR18 2008 $20 2/5 oz flag stamp (undocumented by Bernard but I know it exists)
Each piece is accompanied by the Liberty Dollar Coin Catalog number (LDCC) (from Bernard von NotHaus' book The Liberty Dollar from Concept to Crypto) and the Liberty Dollar Encyclopedia (LDE) number.
PR1 2005 $10 HM
LDCC 1051 LDE NA
This was the first effort by PR RCO Alfredo Pacheco to get a Liberty Dollar personalized for Puerto Rico. Bernard created the PR hallmark stamp and stamped it onto some of the 2005 $10 short hair lock pieces (#12 in the LDE). How many he did is unknown. The photo above was simulated by pasting the hallmark from LDE #13 onto a LDE #12.
PR2 2006 $10 GI (Short Hair)
LDCC 1069 LDE NA
In 2006 Alfredo had a reverse die made just for Puerto Rico. Both hallmarked and serial numberd pieces of this were stamped by Bernard. It is assumed that 50 were hallmarked and 100 were serial numbered as was done for all the SMI that were done the same year. The photo above (a 2006 general issue) was simulated by removing the hallmark and serial number from LDE #13.
PR3 2006 $10 HM
LDCC 1070 LDE NA
In 2006 Alfredo had a reverse die made just for Puerto Rico. Both hallmarked and serial numberd pieces of this were stamped by Bernard. This is the HM only piece. The photo above (a 2006 hallmarked) was simulated by removing the serial number from LDE #13.
PR4 2006 $10 SN
LDCC 1071 LDE 13
In 2006 Alfredo had a reverse die made just for Puerto Rico. This is a 2006 serial numbered piece. The photo above is LDE #13 That was used because it was the only photo I had of the piece and I forgot to edit out the hallmark and serial numer before posting it on the $20 base page.
PR5 2006 $10 Long Hair
LDCC NA LDE 13.5
This piece is undocumented in Bernard's book. I'm not sure why, because I told him about it when it was discovered in late 2013.
