All league and cup games are played by six players from each team
League matches
We have two divisions with a maximum of 28 clubs - for 2025-26 there should be 14 in D1 and 13 in D2
The season will run from early September to May
All new teams start in Second Division
In Second Division top two are promoted automatically – teams placed third to sixth go in an end of season play-off for the third promotion place
League games are scored with a point for each frame and a point for the aggregate
The top three players in each team are drawn against the top three from the other team, ensuring a match against a player of similar ability
Knock Out Cup & Shield – first round losers in the KO Cup are entered into the KO Shield
KO matches are decided on aggregate only
Divisional Cups – Cup Competition for each division - usually played at the end of the season
Divisional Cup KO matches are won by the first team to win four frames, or by the aggregate if frames are level
Matches should start promptly at 8.00 (except at the clubs with one table [ i.e. Gorton] which should begin at 7.30)
All league and cup matches are played off handicaps; a list of current handicaps will be published at every monthly Delegates’ Meeting. All current handicaps are listed on the league website
Handicaps are adjusted monthly on the basis of league games won and lost, and on the margin of victory or defeat. Breaks, cup games and individual competitions are not taken into account.
Handicaps in the league range from -35 to +35.
Cap; the maximum start any player can give or receive in a league match is 50 points. This is also applied in any Cup or Individual matches
New Players
With your list of registered new players we need a realistic guide to their ability.
No new players may start on more than +20
New players are subject to a treble adjustment for each of their first five league frames then double for the next five; this helps to ensure that an appropriate handicap is reached as soon as possible.
Player of the Season; PoS points are awarded for league and cup wins and progress in individual competitions – one award for each division
Most Improved Players; Player whose handicap has reduced by the greatest amount over the course of the season – one award for each division
Best New Player; Awarded to the new player with the most PoS points
Levenshulme Classic; Open to all players; scratch - £10 entry – all entry fees paid out in prizes to the finalists
Senior Merit; Open to all players; played off scratch
Tony Ellis Trophy; Open only to established players with a handicap 18 or over at the start of the season; played off scratch
Hornby Handicap; Open to all players; played off current league handicaps
