RECTORY

THE REVEREND ROGER BIRD HAD THE RECTORY BUILT IN 1847

Lanteglos Rectory was 1 of 6 pinwheel-plan houses that Pugin designed over a 5 year period 1843 – 1848. Lanteglos designed in early 1846. Pugin had no direct contact with Lanteglos and used Bloxam, Rev Bird’s brother-in-law as an intermediary.

It seems that Bloxam offered to pay Pugin’s fee for the work.

Pugin’s fee for the Lanteglos Rectory was originally set at 2 ½ % of the estimated building cost of £1,500. However by February of 1846 Pugin revised the cost up to £1,900. When he realised his services would not be needed and a builder was engaged to do the work Pugin rounded down his fee to £36 for the drawings.

The rectory with some changes was completed in 1847. Info from Timothy John Brittain-Catlin Trinity College A.W.N. Pugin’s English Residential Architecture in its Context

The Rectory is now the Lanteglos Hotel
