WSDC 2018 Team and Coach Selection

It's that time of year again, when the KFL picks the top high school debaters in Korea to compete on behalf of Korea at the Olympics of high school debate, World Schools Debating Championship. The KFL is pleased to announce the selection process for the 2018 WSDC Team Korea and for the coach to join returning coach Hyewon Rho. Please see the relevant material on our website: 

Coaching applications due by September 1.
Debater applications due by September 1. 

1) WSDC 2018 Selection Timeline: This document lists the timeline for the selection of the national team as well as the new coach.

2) WSDC Training Pool Application: This Google Doc form must be filled out by each school's liaison. NO student submitted applications will be accepted. There is an in-school selection process and the KFL weighs in after that.

3) WSDC Coach Application: This Word document should be completed by anyone wishing to coach the WSDC team.  One coach will be elected this year for a two year term.  In the first year of the term, the newly-elected coach may be registered with WSDC as Korea's adjudicator and in the second year of the term the coach may be registered as coach.

Congratulations to those debaters selected to represent Korea in Indonesia at the 2017 World Schools Debating Championship.

11th Korea Public Speaking Championship Results

Congratulations to the following students for their excellent efforts at the 11th Korea Public Speaking Championship!  The students competed in a competitive field with representatives from seven schools.  A special congratulations to Seoul International School for winning the Sweepstakes as best all-around school.  Also, congratulations and thanks to Seoul International School for successfully hosting the event!

The following six students qualified for World Individuals in Pittsburgh:
     Qualifier and Korea Public Speaking Champion: Andrew Siyoon Ham (SIS)
     Qualifier: Andy Yoon (SIS)
     Qualifier: Chanho Kim (HAFS)
     Qualifier: Jaesang Lee (KMLA)
     Qualifier: Sky Park (SIS)
     Qualifier: Ye Chan Song (KIS)

In addition, the following students performed exceptionally well in specific events:

     After-Dinner Speech:
        1st Place: Saihyun Genie Kim
        2nd Place: Seonyoung Hwang 
        2nd Place: Chanho Park

     Oratory:

11th Korea Public Speaking Championship and World Individuals Qualifier

The KFL would like to invite schools to participate in a qualification event for the World Individuals Debating and Public Speaking Championships to be held in Australia in April of 2017. (www.widpsc.com) The qualification event will be held on Saturday, November 12th at Seoul International School.  The top six students at the qualifier will be invited to represent Korea.

Read the attached documents and contact us if you need the registration form.  Registration is by school and is due by October 31st, so if you are a student who would like to participate, please contact your school's faculty liaison.  Contact information is included in the attached files.  Use this same contact information for inquiries regarding applying to coach the team.  Coach applications are also due by October 31st.

10th Korea Public Speaking Championship Results

Congratulations to the following students for their excellent efforts at the 10th Korea Public Speaking Championship!  The students competed in a competitive field with representatives from six schools.  A special congratulations to Hankuk Academy of Foreign Studies for winning the Sweepstakes as best all-around school.  Also, congratulations and thanks to Korean Minjok Leadership Academy for successfully hosting the event!

The KFL would like to invite schools to participate in a qualification event for the World Individuals Debating and Public Speaking Championships to be held in the United States in April of 2015. (www.widpsc.com) The qualification event will be held on Saturday, November 14th at Korean Minjok Leadership Academy. (http://minjok.hs.kr/)  The top six students at the qualifier will be invited to represent Korea.
