Patrick Mackey enlisted in the RAF in WW2 . He received The War Medal 1939-1945. He was posted to Singapore and received the General Services Medal for service in the Malayian campaign. This was from 1948-1952.

In 1939-1946 the Irish registered cargo boats sailed for the most part unescorted to and from England. Denis Daly pictured below received the following medal (note the 2 bars).
The Daly family were mostly in the mercantile marine. A brother of Denis, Richard was also on the boats in WW2.
Patrick Daly died in Italy in 1944, his memorial is in the Mackey Memoeial of the Dead.
