Mackey Old Family Houses

Remember that most of the houses our ancestors lived in were Tenements, they have since been knocked down and rebuilt. So this is all that remains. No records suggest that any of these houses were owned by the tenants.

When Richard and Ellen Mackey moved from Cork circa 1865, one of the first houses they occupied was the following house at 5 Upper Mayor Street Dublin. A house like this would have been occupied by at least 3 families.

All other houses they occupied have been knocked down and the area redeveloped. One area now is known as the IFSC. Another area is about Lower Sherriff Street, has also been redeveloped.

On the other hand his Son Francis's residences have survived. Initially he lived in this house at number 1 Church Street North Dock.

Thence he moved up the road to number 13

from there he moved to 4 Fish Street (which is now called Castle Forbes Street), Frank and Paddy were born here.

I do not know if he lived in the main house or the houses at the rere.

By 1908 the year Francis died they had moved to 8 Foster Terrace, Phibsborough. He would have been working in the Northern Railways Engineering works at Broadstone.

After Francis died Mary Mackey moved to Buckingham St., thence by 1911 to 25 North William's Street.

By the time Mary Mackey (junior) married Patrick Jennings, the family had moved to number 23.

In this house Mary Mackey lived with her son Michael and his wife Christina Crosbie. All the children were born here. The Mackey brothers foundary was at the rere of 44 Summerhill Parade, is now a disused car cleaning business

With the good times Michael and Christina moved to Number 10 Killarney Parade.
