Knox Old Family Houses

John and Mary Knox initially (1846-1858) lived in a house at 40 Church Street, Arran Quay Dublin. I am not sure that the house that is there today is over 160 years old. It appears to be a turn of the century house (19th to 20th). Anyway its in the same location. Below what it did look like in 1848.

Catherine, John, Christopher and Mary were born here.

Thence they moved to Upper Abbey Street, there are no old houses, but number 18 and 17 would be at this car park.

Farrells Court would have been located within the Jervis Shopping Center, and its entrance would have been here

Christopher Knox and Wife Catherine had their first born Patrick while living in 22 Wexford Street. This house has been rendered, it looks to be over 130 years old.

From there he went back to the Northside and lived on Parnell Street (Capel Street end). All houses have been redeveloped.

When he returned from Banagher he lived in number 5 North Brunswick Street. This house is an old stone building thay may have been part of the adjacent Richmond Hospital. Catherine Knox was born here.

From there he went to Upper Dorset Street, all the properties occupied (both by him and his sister Mary) on this Street have been levelled. In 1911 he was living in 61 Camden Street in this building (which is not too far from Wexford Street).

His son Patrick lived in Primrose Avenue, not far from Dorset Street and Wellington Street. He lived in Number 13. Later on his son Patrick lived in number 14. Here are both houses.

John Knox lived with the family to about 1879 when he moved "southside" to Francis Street then to 53 Thomas Street. This is a picture of a room in Francis Street about that time. There are no families that actually owned their properties until about 1920.

53 Thomas Street today. Now O'Briens.

Most of the houses (on Grenville St, Dorset Street) occupied by Mary Knox and her descendents the Cotters were levelled, however, this house is 1 Summer Street, was occupied by John Cotter.

The area has been redeveloped, and Summer Place is no longer as it was.

When Delia Knox with sons Bernard and John visited Joseph and Rosanna Knox in the Isle of Man they stayed at this house, which is 2 Woodbourne Road, which is a continuation of Buck's Road

When they died they were living accross the road on St Stephens Terrace. Stephens House is to the rere, the site has been redeveloped. Joseph does not appear on the 1919 register of Electors for either Douglas nor Castletown, so we cannot be sure where they stayed initially.

His daughter Mary Elizabeth and husband John, stayed at this house at 11 St. Catherines Drive. They were there in the 1950 register of Electors. Note that the period 1920-1950 is missing from the Manx Archives.
