Solving multiple equations by Google Drive

Solving multiple linear equations is easy in Google Drive. Here is how to do it. Suppose we have a system of 3 linear equations as shown below.

x - 2y + 3z = 7

2x + y + z = 4

-3x + 2y - 2z = -10

This system of equation can be written in a matrix form as

[A]*[V] = [B]

where [A] is the coefficient matrix, [B] is constant matrix and [V] is answer matrix.

The answer matrix can be solved from [V] = Invers([A])*[B]. In Google Drive spreadsheet, inverse matrix of [A] can be found from the function MINVERSE([A]) and matrix multiplication can be done by the fuction MMULT( [M1] , [M2] ).

We start by opening a new Google spreadsheet and type in the coefficients (red cells in the range B3:D5) and constants (blue cells in the range H3:H5) of equations as shown in the picture below. Then, we find the answer matrix [V] by typing in the formula "= MMULT( MINVERSE(B3:D5) , H3:H5 )" and hit enter.

Now the answer matrix is calculated and printed out in yellow cells. The solution to this multiple equations are x = 2 , y = -1 and z = 1 as shown below. Solving multiple equation is easy in Google Drive everywhere that has internet connections.
