Hook TV to Trailer

By this time, all work inside the trailer is complete and Donna comes out to help me attach the tow vehicle (TV) to the trailer. I can do this by myself, and have on many occasions, but it is certainly easier with 2 people.

Donna gets in the truck and backs up while I direct from the trailer hitch. I have already raised the tongue of the trailer as high as think necessary for the hitch to fit beneath it. Once the ball of the hitch is directly under the tongue of the trailer, I loop the breakaway cable over the ball of the hitch and direct Donna to stop. I then lower the trailer with the latch in a locked open position. Once the tongue is nestled on the ball, I then flip the latch to lock it in place. If the latch will not flip to lock, it may be necessary for Donna to drive up or back just a bit.

Once the tongue is locked onto the hitch, Donna can turn off the motor and go about any other tasks that may remain. Meanwhile, I raise the tongue back up in order to add the spring bars to my Husky hitch system. This takes a few minutes. Once this is done, I remove any blocks beneath the tongue jack and lower the tongue all the way.

Next, I cross the safety chains. In other words, the right chain on the trailer hooks to the left side of the hitch while the left chain on the trailer hooks to the right side of the hitch.

Finally, I plug the electric cable into the 7 way plug. We always check our brake lights and blinkers at this time to ensure they are working.
