This page contains information specific to my line of the Cameron family.
Currently, we can trace my line of Camerons to August 14, 1810, which is the birth of Joseph Cameron to John and Sarah. We have not been able to find anything prior to that date. We believe that John and Sarah were 1st generation Americans, and we suspect they probably came from Germany. I had long thought that my ancestors were from Scotland because of the name, but the church where the children of John and Sarah were born -- the Jerusalem Evangelical Lutheran Church of Annville, Lebanon County, Pennsylvania -- kept all of its records in German. Hence, German was probably the spoken language of the church as well. That leads me to believe that my ancestors were native speakers of German.
The route from Pennsylvania to Texas that my ancestors took required almost a century, and it contained pauses in Ohio, Illinois, and Missouri before finally reaching Freestone County in Texas.
The "Cameron Family Tree.doc" document below is a very abbreviated account of my family tree. From John Cameron to my grandson is a trail 8 generations long.
Over the years, I've accumulated various pictures and documents of my family, and I'm happy to share them with other members of my extended family.
This is the earliest known photo of my great-grandfather, Thomas Clifton Cameron, born sometime between 1856 and 1860 in Illinois, and died March 14, 1934, in Limestone County, Texas. He was the 12th of 13 children born to Daniel Cameron and Mary Ann Grubaugh.
Nona Florence Cameron and Thomas Clifton Cameron were my great-grandparents. They had 7 children, with 1 dying in infancy. All of their children are pictured here, as well as 3 grandchildren. My grandfather is Edd Cameron, who is holding is oldest daughter, Elizabeth. His oldest son, Hedly, is standing next to him. Hedly was shot down over Belgium while flying a mission in World War II. My grandather's first wife, Fannie, died shortly after this picture. He married my grandmother shortly afterwards.
This is one of the treasured photographs in my family. The lady sitting is Mary Ann Grubaugh, my great-great-grandmother. She was born about 1811 and married Daniel on April 19, 1838, in Richland County, Ohio. They had 13 children together. Others in the picture are, standing left to right, Sarah A (Cameron) Meyers [oldest daughter of Daniel and Mary Ann], Mary (Stubblefield) Blurton, and Mary Ann (Myers) Stubblefield. The child is Claude Blurton. All are direct descendants of Mary Ann and Daniel. 5 generations are represented here.
Seated is my great-grandmother, Nona Florence. Behind her are 5 of her 6 surviving children. From left to right, they are: Edd (my grandfather), Thomas, Cora, Mary, and Adell. The missing child is Daniel, who lived in northeast Texas at the time of this photo.
