In response to a professional-development course I took about usability testing in Spring 2012, I was able to design and administer a few small usability tests about particular aspects of the CSM Library's webpage. In addition to the re-organization of the By Subjects pages already described, I also tested the name of the Serials Solutions tool that allows you to see what journals are indexed in which database (currently called "View by Title"). After explaining to students what the tool did and what it was for, I asked them to do a card-sorting exercise to determine what was the best name for that tool. I am really excited to have usability testing in my professional toolkit, since I think that there will be a lot of opportunity for me to use it in the future.
