One of the major projects I've worked on during the past two years has been the creation of a series of Information Competency Video Tutorials. To begin with, I reviewed the course outline and syllabus for LIBR 100 as well as our existing webpage-based information competency tutorials to make sure that the tutorials covered all the appropriate topics. I also reviewed numerous repositories of video tutorials about information literacy concepts to see what other libraries were covering as well as whether there were any relevant video tutorials that I could repurpose for our students. It was also important for the project to align the video tutorials with the library's SLOs - student learning outcomes - related to information competency, which are rooted in ACRL's Standards for Information Competency.
Ultimately, using video tutorial content developed by CLIP - the Collaborative Library Instruction Project - I selected, edited, and added embedded captions to eight information literacy video tutorials, plus a few additional videos available through YouTube. Furthermore, I created a framework to allow students to move through the tutorials in a logical manner that at the same time gives them a sense of the larger research process. While working on this project, i gained experience using Adobe Captivate software as well as uploading and creating YouTube playlists.
The video tutorials can be found both here in a LibGuide and here in a YouTube playlist.
