Somerset

All the time of writing, we have only spent two days walking on the Somerset Coast, after starting the South West Coast Path in Minehead. It was Tuesday 22nd April 2008 when we passed the sculpture that marks the start of the South West Coast Path before climbing up though wonderful woodland and onto moorland and eventually descending to Porlock Weir (and on to Porlock, where we were staying). The following day took us from Porlock and through the delightful Colbone Wood and Yenworthy Wood to the county boundary with Devon, and on to Lynton.

I didn't note  the exact location of the county boundary when we were there, though I commented it was after we'd walked through Yenworthy Wood and I think the photograph on the right was taken nearby. More recent research indicates the county boundary is probably where I have indicated on the map below.  I also had some difficulty finding the county boundary to the east of the county, largely because I struggled to understand the relationship of  Somerset, Avon and Bristol.  It appears that the county of Avon only existed between 1974 and 1996, so the area around Portishead is now back in Somerset, while Bristol remains a separate county. Whatever, as you can see from the map, there is still a lot of Somerset to explore, and the coastal path to the east of Minehead is a section that I am particularly keen to walk.
