English Stuff - English Testing STUFF

This page provides an overview of how we construct, invigilate and score English exams at Hot Spring Elementary School. Follow the links to find samples of our monthly exams and more details about their construction. The Monthly Exam page will be updated as we make more exams, so check back often. You can also find out more about TOEFL Primary, a standardized proficiency test for young learners by ETS. We register our 5th-6th graders for this exam every year to let the kids understand the scope of their English learning progress and to help us improve our teaching by identifying strong and weak areas. The Final Review page has links to numerous gamified teaching resources to review the topics that are covered by Taitung County's English achievement tests that occur near the end of the school year in late May.

This video is a few years old (circa COVID pandemic). Now the rapid development of AI has also brought vast improvements in computer generated human voices, so I would like to add that Microsoft Edge pdf reader and browser and Play HT are also excellent sources of high quality simulated voices. Play HT is a web-based service like Open AI's Chat GPT. I prefer to use "Evelyn" at 0.5 speed, although the half speed is often as fast as regular speech. If you don't like the first generation, just regenerate the voice and Evelyn will change her tone, stress, and speed naturally like a real person. Regenerate until you get a take that you like. Microsoft Edge still requires some voice "directing" like adjusting volume at onset and final phonemes like discussed in this video.
