Discussion Starters, Warm-Ups, Time Killers

This page is a dumping ground for links and stuff that might just be interesting or fun to try in class, especially at the end of the term when we are all in class but have nothing to do because exams are finished and grades uploaded. You can play around with stuff to expand students' incidental learning of vocabulary and culture (in addition to all the kid's music, TED-ed, and online games in the other pages).

A mixture of some common and uncommon vocabulary in multiple-choice and multi-select questions. This game is designed for teaching vocabulary in addition to reviewing. It might also throw off some of the smarty-pants kids in the class.

A review of basic food vocabulary and adjectives/ classifications. Quick and easy for most kids.

A collection of kahoots made from Brain Box, Brain Quest, Dobble and Cortex Challenge cards. Brain Box and Brain Quest games require players to view and memorize pics before answering, so they should keep question order. Randomize answer options.

Riddles with answers on back of card. Most answers are single words. Play as flashcards and see if students can figure them out. Then play again as LIVE game.
