A brief history of the Johnian Golf Society

The Johnian Society Golf Meeting was held for the first time in 1925 to play for the Marshall Hall Cup.

The Johnian Society itself was established in 1923 following a meeting of Johnians chaired by Sir Edward Marshall Hall KC, who donated the splendid cup for which we used to compete. Unfortunately the original trophy was stolen on Halloween 2018.

The purposes of the Johnian Society are to facilitate continuing collegiality and friendship between Johnians no longer in residence and to facilitate enduring links between such Johnians and the College. The College has supported this aim over the years by offering Johnian Golfers accommodation during the annual golf meetings.
