Dr. Xiang runs a research lab on Plant Molecular Systematics and Evolution in the Department of Plant and Microbial Biology (PMB) at North Carolina State University. The North Carolina state flower, Cornus florida L., and its relatives have been the focus of her research, with projects that spans topics in phylogenetics, biogeography, hybridization, polyploidy, and recently in evolutionary developmental genetics and ecological genomics.

The lab trains undergraduate and graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and visiting scholars, and enjoys collaboration with colleagues at NC State, other institutions in the United States and globally. For more information on her research, please click here.

Dr. Xiang teaches a Systematic Botany course (PB403/PB503) every fall semester at both undergraduate and graduate levels. She also teaches the Plant Resources, Ecology, and Culture in Eastern China course (PB495-500/PB595-500), a summer study abroad program, in collaboration with Zhejiang University in Hangzhou, China, and co-instructors Dr. David Boufford and Dr. Tom Wentworth. Additionally, Dr. Xiang mentors undergraduate student research, either for course credit (PB493) or as a work-study. To see more details on these courses, click here.
