FAUNA

 FAUNA:-There are not so many animals in Lahoul. The common mammal is the ibex, locally called 'tangrol'. It is a heavily built goat with large horns. The snow leopard and the wolf are also found but they are by no means common. They prey on sheep, goats and ibex. Few bharal exists on the lingti plain. Red foxes and brown bears are more numerous. Musk deer are seen rarely. An odd rabbit like animal called 'pika' may be seen occasionally. Snow pigeons and chakor are plentiful near cultivation. The snow cock bird is not very common. Wild ducks are seasonal birds which passes through Lahoul on their way from Central and north Asia to the plains of India during autumn. Snow trout of very good quality is also found.
