Camping

       Damascus has a "Scout Camping area" about a 1/2 mile walk from the race start.  

Camping Fees

      Camping is $5 per camper per night.  You can camp out the night before and the night after the race.  I plan to have a 'jar' at registration to collect money for camping.  You can also mail it in (see info below)

Scout Camping Area on S. Shady Ave 

DIRECTIONS

An address you can use for GPS directions is 919 South Shady Ave. Damascus, VA 24236, which is Souls Harbor Church, and you will pull around to the back left side of that building for entry into our Scout’s camping area. When you arrive, the wooden gates will be closed and dummy-locked, and we ask that when you leave, you close and dummy-lock it back.  Also, when you are away from the site, please close the gates to deter random people from roaming back in there.

THE BASICS

This is a very primitive, mostly wooded tract of land that backs up to Beaverdam Creek, and there are plenty of spots to pitch tents, hang hammocks, build a campfire, etc. There is a bathhouse for you to use near the at the front of the ballfields, a couple of hundred feet from the wooden gates you pull in at (there is an access gate in the fence near the bathhouse).  

If you need assistance while you’re here, please contact the Washington County VA central dispatch office at 276-676-6277 and ask them to have a Damascus Officer contact you. If a Damascus Officer is not available, they will contact the closest available County officer. 

FYI - In Damascus there is a cell tower with only Sprint and Verizon services (and AT&T if you aren’t inside a building), so if your cell service is thru another provider, you probably won’t have a signal unless you go to a location where wi-fi is available.

The fee to camp is $5 per person, per night.  This can be placed in the drop-box just outside the Fire Station/Town Hall front doors at 208 West Laurel Ave., or mailed back to us after the camping trip to:
