FAN FAQ

How Can I Get to Know Ultimate?

Lots of great resources, including other Iowa Ultimate fans, can help you get familiar with the game. Check out USA Ultimate's About Ultimate page. For younger fans, PBSKids has Team Sports: Ultimate Frisbee.

How Can I Support the Program?

Fans can play a huge role in the success of a program. There are a wide variety of ways you can help:

  • Attend a tournament. Nothing is more exciting than watching Ultimate in person. The players love having family, friends and alumni at a tournament to cheer them on.

  • Provide food. These guys burn an enormous number of calories on the field, and eating throughout the day can make an impact on those last few games. Sandwiches, fruit, cookies, pickles, granola bars, sports drinks... if we send it, they will eat. For info on getting food to the players, contact us at ihuccaptains@gmail.com

  • Provide accommodations. If you live in or near a tournament town, consider letting some (all) of the players stay at your place. Not only do hotel rooms cost money, but they are usually much more cramped than your family room or basement. IHUC promises to clean up after themselves and treat your house as if it is our own.

  • Consider a monetary donation. The program is in the process of setting up a fundraising system. While the University does provide some funding, this does not come close to covering all the tournament fees, hotel rooms and gas. Any and all contributions to help cover these costs are appreciated.

How Can I Follow Tournament Play?

If you aren't able to make it to a tournament in person, you can still keep up on the action using Twitter. Follow IHUC via @UofIowaUltimate. Don't have a Twitter account? Text Follow @UofIowaUltimate to 40404 from your cell phone. You will receive a message telling you that you are following that account and the team tweets will come to your cell phone as text messages.
