Iowa Callahan Nominations

The Callahan award is presented annually to the most valuable players in college ultimate. Award nominees display superior skill and athleticism, but also demonstrate outstanding sportsmanship, leadership and dedication to ultimate.

Jason Chen embodies Iowa Hawkeye Ultimate Club. As a two year captain, while graduating pre-med a year early and in his first year of med school, Jason just led IHUC to our joint best regionals finish in 13 years. With stifling handler defense, unreal layouts and every throw in the bag, Chen fills every gap IHUC needs and then some. His leadership has guided the program out of turbulence and into prosperity, and teammates and opponents alike have nothing but glowing remarks for Jason's spirit. IHUC is honored to nominate Jason Chen for the 2024 Callahan Award.

2023 - Cole Davis

Cole Davis, a two year captain of IHUC, has been a fundamental piece of IHUC's success as a program. On the field, Cole is everything you could ask for in an ultimate player. He is the epitome of what you want in a teammate, has every throw in the bag, is always open, and can play lockdown defense at the highest level. What truly stands out about Cole is the person he is off the field. As another former teammate and captain Nick Culver put it, "Cole Davis the person and teammate will always exceed Cole Davis the player, and Cole Davis the player is a pretty high bar." IHUC is honored to nominate Cole Davis for the 2023 Callahan Award.

2022 - Nolan Cochran

Nolan Cochran has been a member of the Iowa Hawkeye Ultimate Club (IHUC) since the fall of 2020. A dynamic all around player, Nolan has established himself as a staple on our d-line where we ask him to do anything and everything, never letting us down. Beginning his college career, Nolan transferred back to where he belongs and has risen up the ranks to be not only one of the best players on the team but in our region as well. Known for his layout ds, devastating cuts, and consistent throws, Nolan can do just about anything. A fantastic teammate as well, Nolan puts every ounce of effort into every game and truly inspires those who play alongside him. IHUC is honored to nominate Nolan Cochran for the 2022 Callahan Award.

2021 - Tyler barrett

Tyler Barrett has been a member of the Iowa Hawkeye Ultimate Club (IHUC) since the fall of 2015, guiding the team for 3 years as a captain and being named 2nd team all-region twice over his career. He has been an integral part of the offense, taking on a starting handler role since the beginning of his ultimate career. He has established himself as a dominant threat and elevated his teammates by practically perfecting his throws in all types of weather conditions. By utilizing this tool kit of throws, defenders are stumped trying to stop his huge hucks and cheeky arounds. His high-caliber play has helped IHUC maintain strength in games and made the offense a competitive force to be reckoned with. All while expressing nothing but respect for his opponents, team members, and the game of ultimate. IHUC is honored to nominate Tyler Barrett for the 2021 Callahan Award.

2020 - Nick culver

Nick Culver has been a member of the Iowa Hawkeye Ultimate Club (IHUC) for 4 years and captained for his last 2. He is a dedicated player who constantly strives to improve not only himself but the members of his team. As an inspiring leader and key player of IHUC, Nick has been able to bring lock-down defense against any competitor. He is known on the field for his swift cuts, solid throws, and not being afraid to put his body on the line for the disc. Each game, he goes head to head against the opposing top players and has always had a dedicated spot on the universe line. Nick’s high caliber field knowledge and athleticism allows him to stand out over many players. Off the field, Nick has worked countless hours on strengthening and focusing on the longevity of the team. Without his guidance, IHUC would not be nearly as structured as it is today. IHUC is honored to nominate Nick Culver for the 2020 Callahan Award.
