Dear Fellow Toastmasters,
As today's General Evaluator, I would like to share my summary of today's meeting with you.
Time: 12:00 - 1:00pm
Location: The leasing Center, Floor 1A, Villa Siena Apartment Complex
Present at the meeting: 13 members and 2 guests.
Today's meeting started on time. Margaret Yamamoto was the Toastmaster of the Day and she started out the meeting by sharing a quote. I would love to expand more on her quote, but for the life of me the details are escaping me. Margaret you’ll have to send a follow up ( my apologies). Regardless, top to bottom you did an excellent job!
Harry Yan talked about the four cornerstones of leadership in today's Tip of the Day. Today he focused on respect and told a funny story that demonstrated his point. Next week, he will continue the topic on the four elements of leadership: Integrity, Respect, Service and Excellence.
Doug Wheaton stepped up and gave the Thought of the Day and spoke about the exciting and wild sport of curling in the Winter Olympics. He said that he was interested in learning more about the sport and went to Wikipedia to find out all of the exciting details. Tip of the Day, if you want to find more information about anything go to Wikipedia ( or ask Harry).
Noel Dalmacio told the Joke of the Day and he didn’t disappoint. He told a joke about a boy, his cousin and 16 wife’s…. Doesn’t make sense? Don’t miss the meeting and you won’t miss the punch line! Corner Noel and our next meeting and I’m sure he’ll share again.
The only prepared speech today was from Tisha Templeton. As our reigning VP of Education she presented about our club’s mentoring program and some changes that are taking place to make our club a place where people can develop their speaking and leadership skills in a comfortable environment. She handed out mentor/mentee forms so we can collaborate with each other and assist with any speeches or duties. Great job Tisha!
The Table Topic master, Richard Tatunay, brought a couple topics to the table that dealt with Valentine’s Day. Guest Ivy stepped up and detailed what Valentine’s Day meant to her and what us guys should be doing ( I took notes). Fernando, you crack me up. Fernando was a speed dating contestant and spoke about how he would lure woman on a date. Ladies, did you know he’s been to 60 countries!
Dolores Lara evaluated Tisha’s speech. overall positive view, she gave some tips about the use of props ( had technical difficulties with the laptop) and did a good job of breaking down Tisha’s speech with positive feedback about use of tone.
The Ah-Counter, Grammarian and Timer's reports demonstrated the ability of listening. All reports were thorough and helpful.
At the end of the meeting, the guests made positive comments about today's meeting and hopefully we will have a few new members joining our club soon.
It was my pleasure being the General Evaluator today, I hope my anodyne summary was to everybody’s liking.
You guys better be knocking on wood!

Hi All
The quote is from the December 2013 Toastmaster Magazine – Viewpoint by George Yen, International President of Toastmaster:
In confronting who we really are, we are compelled to let go of our mask. The Chinese philosophy of Taoism promotes the power of letting go.
The following statements are all attributed to Lao Tzu, the sixth-century B.C. philosopher.
“When I let go of what I am, I become what I might be.”
“When I let go of what I have, I receive what I need.”
“When I feel most destroyed, I am about to grow.”
Does this kind of “letting go” apply to the letting go of the nervousness we feel when we give our Ice Breaker in front of an audience? Once we learn to let
go of our masks, we are rewarded with a breakthrough in the form of confidence gained.
Have a great day!
Best Regards,
Margaret
