Slide 2: Introduction

first point "issues in developing countries" is irrelevant and distracting.

point 2 & 3 as both are related to south asia, so i think you should quote only one figure which is latest that is from World Bank report

4th point: you should write poverty is initially one dimensional measure.

5th point: here multiple freedom doesn't seems sensible.

Confused collection of points. FOCUS on what you are trying to say, and try to convey it clearly. FIRST point is that POVERTY is BIG problem in South Asia. Support this with statistics.

SECOND POINT: How we measure poverty makes a big difference in terms of how the poverty policy is designed and evaluated. This is implicit, but needs to be brought out. THEN you can see that initially one dimensional approaches were common, but NOW it is being recognized that they are deficient. Now there is a move towards multidmensional measures.

THIRD POINT: should be on different slide, what are problems with one dimensional measures and how multidimensional measures can solve them.

FInally MDG;s are mentioned and these provide importance of study. You are trying to do too many different things in one place, which is why the slides are confusing. You should focus on one point per slide (roughly.

  1. Background and importance of poverty problem (WB statistics, MDG's anything else)

  2. CONTROVERSY or PUZZLE about HOW poverty is to be measured UNI or MULTI --

  3. Advantages of MULT over UNI AND goal of research in light of this objective -- to study MDP in Pakistan.

Slide 3: Research Gap

you wrote;

ØFirst study in Pakistan

ØIn this study primary data will be used with

inclusion of some other important issues.

}MP + role of NGOs + CDA + Directorate of slums

you should write it as

this is first study which will use primary data to access MP, along this some important issues will be analyze like

  • Role of NGOs

  • Role of CDA

  • Role of Directorate of Slums

Slide 4: Research Objectives

TOO Many objectives, makes for a confused study. FOCUS on what you have said. You want to construct a measure of MDP. Furthermore, you want to study impact of various factors, like CDS etc. on MDP -- which dimension or dimensions are affected most by provision of CDA sservices? ALL of your research objectives should focus on MDP and how it is affected. Points 2, 5,6,7 do not seem to be related to your research topic. They may be interesting questions separately, but you must put them into context which relates to your proposal. If not, then take them out.

Slide 5:Good

Slide 6: it only address your first objective (Measure MP) what about other objectives? you should think about how you will access the role of NGO, CDA etc.

in slide 7 you have discussed about data, what type of data you would get from CDA, Government and directorate of slums?

this seems that it is just a plan to a proposal, providing no clear information...

you should develop the questionnaire so we could get the idea how you address these questions, should discuss about what type of data you would receive and what method you would use to get answer to these questions.

on each objective regarding the role of NGOS govt etc one thesis could be done, its very difficult to justify each objective, it would be good for PHD thesis.

Slide 8 & 9: Fine

Slide 10: third implication could be

it will provide information about the actual role played NGos and Govt organizations....

OVERALL COMMENTS ===Develop Questionnaire and think about your methodology.

you did not done literature review but your discussion on previous methodology covers methodological review related to MP, so its fine but your proposal put much focus on your first objective, but it is providing no discussion on your other objectives.you need to work on other objectives as well or take them out.

ALSO, when doing a detailed survey of slums, just counting to see how many poor there are (whether 100% or 70-80% via union intersection) misses the whole point of the multidimensional approach. MDP is designed to get a PICTURE of poverty -- people have access to water but cant get good education for their children etc. The multidimensional picture is the goal, not just the percentage in poverty. Otherwise, there is not much point to this study: count the number of poor in slums obviously it would be around 100%

Anyway. this is a good effort.
