25. For Future Students

To complete this program, a student must complete 100 hours in a higher education entity. My advice is to pick a department that is of very strong personal interest. I also advise that you explore countless options. Do not just limit yourself to the nearest university, but consider technical, and community colleges. You can also choose an environment that has instructors, deans, and other individuals to be monitored. This is why I chose Adult Education at Ogeechee Technical College. I knew every aspect of my experience would be unique and fulfilling, it really has opened up my eyes to the different types of people higher education can cater to the needs to. I also advise considering more than one higher education department. There is the option of doing 50 hours in two different entities for different experiences.

Another important decision to be made is to choose electives for this program, most likely to be taken during the last semester. I chose two electives and one of them was "The Community College". I chose this course because it is of strong personal interest and relates to my practicum experience. I attended a community college for two years and completed an Associate's Degree. I am very passionate about their mission statements and purposes. My practicum is at a technical college and that was a subject we learned quite a bit about as well. So I strongly encourage a future student to choose an elective that they are passionate about and try to relate it to their experience.

Furthermore, this program can truly help you learn more about higher education than you could have expected. I advise pursuing this program if you are passionate about higher education like I am. This can motivate you to read, discuss, and research fascinating topics to not only help make you a better higher education administrator, but a better person.
