I had to describe my practicum setting. This included identifying my mentor, other employees, clients served, and the organization itself. I also had to explain ways I tried to orient myself to and gain acceptance within the organization.
-Rank your practicum experience thus far on a scale of 0-5 with 0=poor and 5=outstanding.
-What has been the biggest ‘eye-opener’ from your experience thus far?
-How is your and your mentor’s administrative philosophy the same? How is it different?
-Identify areas in which you wish you had more content knowledge or skills to better prepare you for your practicum experience.
I included the above info so that the reader can have a better understanding of what was included in my attached paper. Without repeating my written work, I will explain my answers and how this will help prepare me better for a career in higher education. I have tried to gain acceptance and respect with the people I work with by being open about my educational background and explaining that I have a GED. This has proven to be very effective as everyone is intrigued and students are inspired by my story and what I have accomplished. This assignment truly helped me to realize that this is a good approach. If I do end up instructing GED classes someday. I will continue to be open about my story. Similar to a K-12 teacher, I can have my students look up to me and admire my accomplishments. This has helped give my experience a high scale rating. Also, more specifically, this assignment has allowed me to realize that I can improve my preparation skills. When it comes to teaching, I will utilize many resources similar to K-12 lesson plans and have them ready weeks in advance to instruct even better.
