This assignment was crucial in my development and appreciation for my practicum work at Ogeechee Tech's Adult Education Program. It asked about self-efficacy, a very relevant topic to GED learners. Self-efficacy is a judgment of one’s own abilities and effectiveness which affects their motivation. Unfortunately, too many students in the GED program will have low self-efficacy because of their lack of familiarity on many school subjects. There are techniques I can use to make sure they become more efficacious. Enactive mastery experiences refer to a learner’s own previous success at a task. I will find a way for my students to realize that they can do well on certain assignments that way they have a good previous success record. I will also allow for vicarious experiences to positively influence their self-efficacy. A vicarious experience is the learner’s observation of a role model achieving success at a task. I will demonstrate how easy it is to solve certain problems.
